Welcome
to the Recreation section of the Milford Haven Port Authority Website.
Please be patient with us while we work on this website - there are still some components unavailable.
Here you will find information on a whole range of water-based
activities taking place on the Waterway, including sailing, power
boating, water-skiing, PWC use, windsurfing, canoeing, rowing, fishing
and diving. Activities take place both on an informal basis and through
organised events, including National and International Championships. If
you wish to become involved either as a spectator or as a participant,
check out our Events Diary or take advantage of one of the courses
available around the area.
You will also find useful information about the weather and tides to
help you plan your enjoyment to the maximum. Take a few moments to view
some of the images in the Picture Gallery to get a taste of what there
is on offer. Useful links provide further information regarding local
clubs and facilities, conservation and the environmental issues and
water safety.
The Milford Haven Waterway is the largest estuary in Wales. Its
sheltered, tidal waters are surrounded by a diverse 200 mile coastline
providing habitats for an abundance of wildlife. There are many
tributaries waiting to be explored, but those not familiar with the area
should always be aware of the tidal state when venturing off the main
waterway. The unspoilt scenic qualities of the upper and lower
reaches were recognised in 1952, through the designation of the
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the only coastal National Park in the
UK. Many foreshores are designated as Sites of Special Scientific
Interest. The whole Haven is included in a European Marine Special Area
of Conservation – the highest designation in Europe. The Pembrokeshire
Marine SAC contains marine habitats and species of European importance,
that are required by law to be protected and maintained for the future. |
